Preservatives are necessary to prevent the growth of bacteria, yeasts and mould fungi in water containing products. Without them, products would quickly become infested with these micro-organisms and would be unsafe to use on our skin.
This preservative assists the phenoxyethanol in destroying the micro-organisms by reducing the surface tension at the cell membranes so that they cannot function normally.
